Lead Teacher

TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION Teachers shall meet the duties and qualifications outlined in Rule 3. To provide a comfortable, safe and loving environment, that emphasizes respect for oneself and others, and the importance of working cooperatively with others to achieve common goals.   Curriculum: ● Establish the morning and extended day work period and give lessons as needed. ● Establish and maintain a classroom true to the New Day Family Childcare philosophy, paying attention to the needs of students. ● Implement and update curriculum as student needs dictate. ● Plan, prepare and maintain all units of study – including materials, thematic units, library books, etc. ● Schedule all guest presenters and organize all field trips.   Communication: ● Facilitate a respectful environment for children and adults by advocating conflict resolution and Grace and Courtesy lessons. ● Communicate via newsletters (email) with parents about their children’s school lives monthly and educate parents in New Day Family Childcare philosophy. ● Prepare for and schedule two individual communications with all parents during the year –including one physical parent conferences. ● Schedule and work with other faculty for any joint Parent Nights, programs/performances, etc. ● Meet individually with prospective parents and students. ● Review enrollment forms, new student questionnaires, and a verbal check in at least once a day with families to see if any changes have occurred in their children’s lives.   Mentorship: ● Facilitate hands-on trainings for Aides or Volunteers assigned to group ● Correct behavior that is indifferent to New Day Family Childcare policies ● Explain the “why” behind what teacher does to Aides or Volunteers ● Express continuous improvement amongst self and staff ● Demonstrate how to create and update standardized documentation as needed   Record keeping: ● Carefully observe and keep daily records on each student’s individual progression through the classroom. ● Maintain the school’s system of record keeping through Transparent Classroom. ● Complete individual learning plans and conference forms for all students. ● Keep a school calendar of events. Supervision of Classroom Assistants and Interns: ● Establish a harmonious relationship with assistants. ● Conduct monthly staff meetings. ● Participate in staff evaluations.   Position Qualifications ● Education and experience in alignment with MN 9503.00328. ● Step nine or above on Minnesota Career Lattice . ● Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities such as sports, games and curriculum activities and monitor behavior. ● Ability to lift a weight of twenty-five pounds.   Qualified candidates are required to have and maintain: ● Central Background Registry Number ● Recognizing Child Abuse & Neglect ● Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety ● Safe Sleep ● Orientation ● Current Food Handler’s Card ● Current First Aid & CPR (includes infants, children and adults) ● Minnesota Registry Online Professional Development Statement ● ABAR Training ● Trauma Informed Training ● Fifteen hours of annual training with eight hours in child development   Qualified candidates must be willing to: ● Demonstrate dedication to the practice of the New Day Family Childcare’s educational philosophy ● Complete New Day Family Childcare’s teacher training within two years of being hired ● Commit to leading a culture of lifelong learning by personal example ● Demonstrate a collaborative style of leadership ● Demonstrate excellent communications skills and leadership qualities   Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
